Our Head of Block Management Rachel and Property Manager Emily, attended the annual ARMA conference in London on Wednesday and it was a great day full of updates regarding the Property Management sector.

The day started with a talk from the headline speaker who was the Rt. Hon. Sajid Javid MP who is the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. He gave the good news that had hit the headlines that morning, which was that they government are actively looking to regulate the sector which currently isn’t the case. Companies currently choose to be regulated by ARMA but the sector isn’t regulated in itself. This is a huge step for not only those members regulated by ARMA but also ARMA themselves who have been fighting for the sector to become regulated for years. We are all hopeful that these plans are passed.

The rest of the day concentrated on what changes have been made since the Grenfell disaster and how this has reshaped the world of Property Management and what immediate reviews were required. We heard from the ARMA CEO Nigel Glen with an update on what changes they have made in ARMA over the last 12 months and regular speakers Justin and Amy who are both barristers from Arden Chambers, gave hugely informative talks on ‘What went wrong’ in 2017 where they looked at the cases that changed the law in the last 12 months.

It was a really positive day and we are looking forward to attending next year’s event.
